Spring Into Cleaning For Your Health

TIME TO DETOX: HOW TO DEEP CLEAN YOUR HOME

And just like that, spring is finally here! While it’s tempting to simply sweep away the dust, let’s consider what you’re actually brushing under the rug. Enter: household chemicals. Often overlooked, these toxins are worth getting rid of—for good. After all, they’re harmful to your long-term health (particularly, your hormones) and the environment. This year,  how about taking a more mindful approach to spring cleaning? It’s time to rid your home of unnecessary toxins. By following simple steps in this guide, you can breathe easier in a healthier living space. Deep cleaning to detox your home has never been so effective.

Let’s begin.

1. DECLUTTER AND DONATE

The first step in detoxing your spaces is to declutter. Go through your belongings and get rid of anything that you no longer use or need. Donate items that are in good condition to a local charity or thrift store. This will not only clear up space in your home but also help others in need. You are also clearing energy that is stagnant in your home.

2. CLEAN GREEN

Did you know that cleaning products can be a major source of indoor air pollution? Many conventional cleaning products contain harmful chemicals that can cause respiratory problems, skin irritation, and other health issues. To detox your home, switch to toxin free cleaning products. Look for eco-friendly cleaning products that are free from harsh chemicals.

3. PURIFY THE AIR

After a long winter, indoor air is trapped and recirculated—which can lead to a buildup of pollutants. To purify the air in your home, consider investing in an air purifier. This device will filter out pollutants and allergens, making the air cleaner and healthier to breathe!

4. SWITCH TO NATURAL PRODUCTS

Yes, it’s time to take inventory of all your personal care products—shampoo, soap, and toothpaste, as well as household products, such as paint, furniture polish, and carpet cleaners. To detox your home, switch to natural products that are free from harmful chemicals. Look for products that are labeled “non-toxic” or “USDA Organic.” Use this list of ingredients to avoid to get a pulse on your products.

5. USE ESSENTIAL OILS

Derived from plants, essential oils are a natural way to detox your home. They also have many health benefits, including reducing stress and anxiety, improving sleep, and purifying the air. You can use essential oils in a diffuser, add them to your cleaning products, or use them to make your own natural air fresheners.

6. GO ORGANIC

This goes without saying, but most fruits and veggies are (unfortunately) sprayed with pesticides. To detox your home, consider buying organic produce—and yes, you can do this on a budget! Ideally, opt for organic meat and dairy products too.

7. FILTER YOUR WATER

Tap water contains a range of contaminants, including chlorine, fluoride, and heavy metals. To detox your home, consider investing in a water filter. This will remove contaminants from your drinking water, making it safer and healthier to drink. You can also use a filter to remove contaminants from your shower water, which can improve the health of your skin and hair.

This is a lot, I know! But making small incremental changes to your environment can drastically reduce your exposure to toxins.
